About Pulmonary Hypertension Association
Welcome to the Pulmonary Hypertension Association (PHA) in Washington, DC. As a non-profit organization, PHA is committed to providing support, education, and advocacy for individuals and families impacted by pulmonary hypertension (PH). Our mission is to empower the PH community and improve lives through awareness, research, patient and caregiver support, and education.
Pulmonary Hypertension: Understanding the Condition
Pulmonary hypertension is a rare and life-threatening condition characterized by high blood pressure in the pulmonary arteries, which carry blood from the heart to the lungs. This increased pressure strains the right side of the heart and can lead to heart failure if left untreated. PH affects people of all ages and genders, with symptoms ranging from shortness of breath and fatigue to chest pain and fainting.
Support and Resources
At PHA, we strive to be a source of support and resources for individuals with PH and their loved ones. We offer a range of programs and services to help individuals navigate the challenges of living with this condition. Our support groups provide a safe space for patients and caregivers to share experiences and find encouragement.
Patient Advocacy and Education
Advocacy plays a vital role in raising awareness and improving the lives of those affected by PH. PHA actively works to advance policies that promote better access to care, increased research funding, and improved healthcare outcomes for individuals with PH. We also provide educational resources for patients, caregivers, healthcare professionals, and the general public to increase understanding of the condition.
Research and Innovation
Research is at the forefront of our efforts to combat pulmonary hypertension. We fund innovative research projects conducted by leading scientists and physicians, with the aim of improving diagnosis, treatment, and ultimately finding a cure for PH. By supporting research, we hope to enhance the quality of life for individuals living with PH and their families.
